Question:When and where the event of Ghadir did happen?
Answer: The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) decided to take a pilgrimage to Mecca in 10 A.H. and informed people about his purpose. Therefore, many people joined him in his last pilgrimage to learn how to perform the pilgrimage in a correct form. The Prophet (s.a.w.) took a pilgrimage to Mecca with Muslims and then moved to Medina. On the 18th of Dhul-Hijjah the Prophet (s.a.w.) stopped in Ghadir Khumm, in Juhfah- where the way of the people of Medina and the people of Egypt and the people of different provinces was separated from each other- while many people were ahead in the way and many caravans fell behind. According to the order of God, the Prophet (s.a.w.) ordered that all the people stopped. The midday heat was unbearable and dresses and camels had provided shade for people. The prophet (s.a.w.) went on a mass of equipments of camels and delivered a sermon. He praised God and informed people that he would leave them soon and asked them how he had done his Divine Mission. All the people said that "we testify that you delivered His message and devoted himself to it and was public-spirited of us. May God reward you for your good deeds." Then in order to make people ready for accepting the last statement, he remind them of delivering the Message honestly and of Thaqalayn several times and determined his high place among Ummah and asked them if he would have more authority over them than themselves that all the people confirmed it. Then he took Ali's hand and held it up and said: "For Whomever I am his mawla Ali will be his mawla." The Prophet (s.a.w.) repeated this statement three times and prayed for those who accepted the Wilayah of Ali (a.s.) and for his friends. Therefore the Prophet (s.a.w.) through a good policy and among thousands of pilgrims confirmed the Wilayah and Caliphate of Ali (a.s.).(11)
