Detailed Answer:
The Prophet (ṣ) is narrated to have mentioned the superiority and greatness of Imam Ḥasan and Imam Ḥusayn and these words have been recorded for us in the form of a tradition. This tradition has been recognized as being fully authentic by all Muslims (Shia and Sunni alike) and it says: Ḥasan and Ḥusayn are the two masters of the youth of paradise.[1] Tirmidhī has similarly narrated from Abū Sa‘īd Khudrī that the Prophet (ṣ) said: Ḥasan and Ḥusayn are the two masters of the youth of paradise.[2] Ibn Mājah has also independently narrated from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar that: Ibn ‘Umar said: The Prophet of God (ṣ) said: Ḥasan and Ḥusayn are the two masters of the youth of paradise and their father is better than them.[3]
Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal has narrated this same tradition with a different chain of narrators. Ḥudhayfah has narrated that the Prophet (ṣ) said: An angel from amongst the angels, who had not descended to earth up until this time, asked permission from his Lord in order to give his greetings to me and give me the glad tidings that: Ḥasan and Ḥusayn are the two masters of the youth of paradise and Fāṭimah is the master of the women of paradise.[4] Dhahabī has considered this tradition to be authentic in his book Talkhīṣ al-Mustadrak. A great number of scholars have considered this tradition to be authentic and have listed it in their works. For example:
1-Ibn Ḥabbān in his book Ṣaḥīḥ[5]
2- NisāÞī in his book KhaṣāÞiṣ Amīr al-MuÞminīn (‘a)
3- Khaṭīb Baghdādī in his book Tārīkh al-Baghdād
4- Abū Na‘īm Iṣfahānī in his ḤilyahÞ al-AwlīyāÞ
5- Ibn Ḥijr ‘Asqalānī in his Al-ÞIṣābah
6- Ibn Athīr Jazarī in his Asad al-Ghābah[6]
In addition, this tradition has been narrated by individuals such as Zarkashī in his book Al-TadhkirahÞ Fī al-Aḥādīth al-Mushtahirah, Jalāl al-Dīn Suyūṭī in his book Al-Darar al-Muntathirah Fī al-Aḥādīth al-Mushtahirah, and Sakhāwī in his book al-Maqāṣid al-ḤasanahÞ Fī al-Aḥādīth al-Mushtahirah ‘Alā al-Alsinah. Zubaydī has also narrated this tradition in his book Laqṭ al-Lālī al-Mutanāthirah Fī al-Aḥādīth al-Mutawātirah.[7]
