Question:How has Tabari quoted the event of "Yawm al-Dar" in his "Tarikh" book?
Answer: Tabari quotes in his "Tarikh" book from Ibn Hamid, from Salmah, from Muhammad Ibn Ishaq, from A'bd Al Ghaffar Ibn Ghasim Abu Maryam, from Manhal Ibn A'mr, from A'bd Allah Ibn Nufil Ibn Harith Ibn A'bd Al Mutallib, from Ibn A'bbas, from A'li Ibn Abi Al talib (a.s.) that he said: When this verse " (وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِیرَتَکَ الاَْقْرَبِینَ) And warn your nearest tribe (relatives) "(1) was revealed on the messenger of God (s.a.), his highness called me and said: O, Ali!
The Almighty God has ordered me to warn my relatives, but I am not inclined to do that because I know whenever I start it they will oppose it in some way. I didn't start it until the Gabriel comes to the earth from the heaven and told me that:" O, Muhammad! If you do not act on the order, you Lord will punish you. I want you to provide food as much as a "Sa'" (about three kilograms), add a leg of mutton to it, and make a pot full of milk too. Then call the Children of Abdul Muttalib to talk with them and to inform them of my duty. His Excellency says that: I did the Prophet's orders, and then I called the Children of Abdul Muttalib who were about forty on that day. From among them were the uncles of the holy Prophet (s.a.), Abu Talib, Hamzah, Abbas and Abu Lahab. When they come, the holy Prophet (s.a.) ordered me to bring the food. I did the same. First the messenger of God (s.a.) took some pieces of meat and cut with his teeth and placed around the tray, and then he said: Begin with the name of God. All eat their fill but I did not see any thing except the fingerprints on the food and I swear by whom my soul is in his hand! There was enough food to satisfy one of them if he wanted to eat as much as they did. . Then the messenger of God (s.a.) said that: let them drink to satiety! I brought the pot of milk and all drunk satiated and I swear by God! There was enough milk to satiate one of them if he wanted to drink as much as they did..
After the meal when the holy Prophet (s.a.) began to speak, Abu Lahab said that: the magic of your owner influences you."
Therefore they were dispersed and the holy Prophet (s.a.) could not talk with them. His Excellency on the next day said that: O, Ali! This man took the lead and said the saying that you heard; therefore, they were dispersed before I talked with them. You prepare the same food of yesterday and then invite them again. His Excellency says: I prepared the food, and invited the same persons (again). His Excellency (s.a.) ordered me to provide the meal and I did the same. His Excellency did the same thing regarding the food. They eat their fill. Then his Excellency said that: lt thm drink to satiety. I brought the pot and all drank satiated.
Then the holy Prophet (s.a.) began to talk with them and said that: O, the sons of Abdul Muttalib! I swear by God that I do not know any young man from the Arab that has brought something for you better than whatever I have brought for you, I have brought the best of the world and the next for you and the Almighty God has ordered me to invite you to draw toward it. Who is ready to help me in this regard to be my brother, executor and successor among you? All remained silent but I answered him (s.a.) in spite of being the youngest of them and…. said that: O, the messenger of God! I will be your minister in this matter. The holy Prophet (s.a.) put his hand on my neck and said:
«انّ هذا اخى ووصیّى وخلیفتى فیکم، فاسمعوا واطیعوا» "Surely! This is my brother and executor and caliph among you, so listen to him and obey him." His highness (a.s.) says that: This tribe stood up while they laughed and said to Abu Talib that: Muhammad has ordered you to listen to your son and obey him.(2), (3)
