Question: What is the word of Sunnite scholars about the reliability of Musa Ibn Qais Hazrami and accepting his quotations?
Answer: Musa Ibn Qais Hazrami, his nickname is Abu Muhammad.
'Aqili has counted him as one of the exaggerators of Rafizis. Sufyan has asked him about Abu Bakr and Ali (a.s.) and he has answered that: Ali (a.s.) is more beloved by me than Abubakr.
Musa has quoted from Salamah Ibn Kuhail, from 'Aayaz Ibn 'Aayaz, from Malik Ibn Ja'unah that he has heard from Umm Salamah who said that: Ali is just, so whoever follows him, he is also just and whoever leaves him he has left the right. This is a recommended promise. Abu Na'im and Fazl Ibn Dakkin have quoted this tradition from Musa Ibn Qais.
Musa has quoted correct narrations regarding the virtues of the Prophet's progeny that have made 'Aqili angry and therefore, so he has said so many things about him. However, Ibn Mu'in has admired Musa.
Abu Dawud and Sa'id Ibn Mansur have mentioned his traditions in their Sunan books.
Zahabi has mentioned his name in the Mizanul I'tidal book [vol. 4, p. 217] and quoted the above mentioned in his biography. The traditions that he has quoted from Salamah Ibn Kuhail and Hajar Ibn 'Aanbasah, are available in the Sunan books.
Fazl Ibn Dakkin, Ubaidullah Ibn Musa and other great scholars have quoted tradition from him.
He passed away during the ruling of Mansur. May God bless his soul.1
