Question: What is the word of Sunnite scholars about the reliability of Hushim Ibn Bashir and accepting his quotations?
Answer: Abu Mu'awiyah, Hushim Ibn Bashir Ibn Qasim Ibn Dinar Salami Wasiti, was originally from Balkh.
Ibn Qutaibah has considered him as one of the authorites of Shia in the Ma'arif book; and he is the master of Imam Ibn Hanbal and other people of this class.
Zahabi has mentioned his name in the Mizanul I'tidal book [vol. 4, p. 306] and has placed the code of the writers of six Sahih books beside his name. Moreover, he has named him “Hafiz” “the memorizer of Qur'an” and has said that: He is one of the distinguished and great men that has heard tradition from Zahri and Hasin Ibn Abd al-Rahman.
Yahya Ibn Qatan, Ahmad, Ya'qub Duraqi and many other people have quoted tradition from him.
You can see the traditions that he has quoted from Hamid Ibn Tawil, Isma'il Ibn Abi Khalid, Abu Ishaq Shaibani and some other people in the Sahih Bukhari and Muslim books.
From the point of the view of Bukhari and Muslim, Umar, Naqid, Amr Ibn Zararah and Sa'id Ibn Sulaiman have quoted tradition from him.
In Bukhari opinion, Amr Ibn Awf, Sa'd Ibn Nasr, Muhammad Ibn Nabhan, Ali Ibn Madini and Qutaibah, and in Muslim opinion, Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, Shuraih, Ya'qub Duraqi, Abdullah Ibn Muti', Yahya Ibn Yahya, Sa'id Ibn Mansur, Ibn Abi Shaibah, Isma'il Ibn Salim, Muhammad Ibn Sabbah, Dawud Ibn Rashid, Ahmad Ibn Muni', Yahya Ibn Ayyub, Zuhair Ibn Harb, Uthman Ibn Abi Shaibah, Ali Ibn Hajar and Yazid Ibn Harun have quoted tradition from him.
