Question:has the tradition of “Manzilat” been quoted by the Holy Prophet only during the event of Tabuk battle?
Answer: The tradition of “Manzilat” is not confined to the battle of Tabuk and it has been quoted by the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) in many occasions, some of them are as follows:
The first case: During the contract of brotherhood
Muttaqi Hindi has quoted in the Musnad of Zaid Ibn Abi Awfi that: "When the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) concluded the contract of brotherhood among his companions, Ali (a.s.) said to the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) that: The soul freed f r o m me and my back broke when I saw you did so with your companions. If you treated me in this way because of being angry with me, you could blame and forgive me."
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said that:
"والّذی بعثنى بالحق ما اخرتک الاّ لنفسى وانت منّى بمنزلة هارون من موسى الاّ انّه لا نبىّ بعدى
“I swear by Him Who sent me as a Prophet rightfully, I just delayed choosing you because I wanted you to be for myself and you are to me as what Aaron was to Moses, except that there is not any prophet after me."(1)
This tradition has been quoted by some other Sunnite scholars such as:
1- Ahmad Ibn Hanbal.(2)
2- Tabrani.(3)
3- Ibn Maghazili Shafi’i.(4)
4- Kharazmi Hanafi.(5)
5- Ibn Asakir Damishqi Shafi’i.(6)
The second case: On the birth of Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn (a.s.)
Ibn Hajar says that: "When Imam Hasan, the grandson of the Holy Prophet, was born the Gabriel came to the earth and said to the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) that: " O Muhammad! Your Lord greets you and says that: Ali is to you as what Aaron was to Moses, except that there is not any prophet after you…."(7)
The same text is true about Imam Husayn (a.s.).(8)
The third case: On the day of Khaibar
Ibn Maghazili Shafi’i quotes f r o m Jabir Ibn Abdullah Ansari with his own document that he said: "When Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) came to conquer the Khaibar, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w) says to him that: "O Ali! If a group of my nation had not said about your dignity the same things that the Christians have said about the prophet Christ, I would have said something about you caused people to take the soil of the sole of your foot and the extra water of your ablution for cure. But it is enough for you that you are to me as what Aaron was to Moses, except that there is not any prophet after me."(9)
The fourth case: On the prohibition of sleeping in the mosque
Ibn Asakir quotes f r o m Jabir Ibn Abdullah Ansari through his own document that he said: "we had slept in the mosque when the Holy Prophet came to us. There was a branch of date in his hand. He beat us by it and asked that: Do you sleep in the mosque? No one is allowed to sleep in the mosque. We got up and Ali Ibn Abi Talib did so. The Holy Prophet said to him that: O Ali Come! Surly doing those things which is lawful for me in the mosque are lawful for you too. O Ali! Are you not satisfied to be to me as what Aaron was to Moses except that there is not any prophet after me.(10)
The fifth case: On closing the doors towards the mosque
Ibn Maghazili Shafi’i has quoted f r o m Huzaifah Ibn Usaid Ghaffari through his own document that he said: "When the companions of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) entered Medina they did not possess any place to live and rest, so, they lived in the mosque.
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said to them that: Do not sleep in the mosque; because you have a nocturnal pollution. They built some houses around the mosque and every one opened a door for himself towards the mosque. After awhile the Holy Prophet sent Ma’az Ibn Jabal to them. First he said to Abu Bakr that: the Messenger of Allah has ordered you to leave the mosque. He said that: I obey his order. Therefore, he closed the door of his house towards the mosque. Then he went to Umar, Uthman and Hamzah and delivered the order of Prophet (s.a.w.) to them. They also closed the door of their houses towards the mosque, but Ali was in doubt about closing the door of his house; because the Holy Prophet had built a house for Ali (a.s.) in the mosque. The Holy Prophet told him that: You live in the mosque while you are pure and clean. Hamzah became aware of it and said that: O Muhammad! You discharge us f r o m the mosque but let the sons of Abdul Muttalib live in it? He said that: Never, if it had been within my jurisdiction I would never have preferred anyone to you…"
Some other people also couldn’t accept this matter. The Holy Prophet became aware of it and addressed a sermon and mentioned the virtues of the Commander of Believers (a.s.). For example he said that: "he is to me as what Aaron was to Moses…"(11)
The sixth case: On coming to his companions(12)
The seventh case: In the house of Umm Salamah(13)
The eighth case: In the case of Anas(14)
The ninth case: In the case of daughter of Hamzah (May God bless him)(15)

The eleventh case: On talking with Aqil (17) (18)
